Materials

Most commercial applications

dictate the need to use inexpen-

sive epoxy glass materials such as

FR-4 or G-10. Unfortunately the

losses of this type of material can

become excessive above 2 GHz.

As an example, a 0.5 inch long

50␣ Ω microstripline etched on

FR-4 along with a blocking

capacitor has a measured loss of

0.35 dB at 4 GHz. The 0.35 dB loss

adds directly to the noise figure of

the MGA-86576. The use of a low

loss PTFE based dielectric

material will preserve the

inherent low noise of the

MGA-86576.
